Music scholarships are added to any academic scholarship and most are renewable up to four years. Awarded music scholarships are issued to students who have been admitted to Luther and can include the following:
For additional details, see the Scholarships and Awards page on the Admissions website.
Music Lesson Scholarships cover the cost of a private lesson for students. Incoming students, regardless of major, may receive this scholarship to develop their musical ability through individual and group instruction during their first year at Luther College. Sophomores, juniors, and seniors who are music majors may receive one music lesson scholarship each semester, with a maximum total of seven semesters of scholarships.
Weston Noble Music Scholarships recognize incoming students who display outstanding potential for participation in Luther's major music organizations. Music faculty award scholarships in several areas of interest, including vocal music, band, orchestra, and keyboard. Candidates for a Weston Noble Music Scholarship are identified through auditions and brought to the attention of the scholarship committee. This award is renewable up to four years.
Acceptance of a Weston Noble Scholarship commits the student to participation in both an ensemble and private lessons in the area of the scholarship. Participation in other areas is still possible, but will not count toward the participation requirement for annual renewal of the scholarship. For more information, please see the Music Department Student Guidelines.
All-state music scholarships are awarded to students who have auditioned and participated in a high school all-state festival or approved equivalent festival (domestic or international) for one year. Scholarship recipients are not required to have a major or minor in music or complete an audition. However, the Luther College music faculty encourages all recipients to audition for a music scholarship. Annual renewal of the scholarship is based on full-time enrollment at Luther, satisfactory academic progress, and participation in a Luther College music ensemble. Students who choose not to participate in a music ensemble at Luther will be awarded a one-time scholarship for their first year.
Lutheran Summer Music Scholarships are awarded to students who participated in a Lutheran Summer Music Festival. Scholarship recipients are not required to major or minor in music or complete a music scholarship audition. However, the Luther College music faculty encourages all recipients to audition for a music scholarship. This award is renewable up to four years.
Special gifts in direct support of Luther’s program of financial assistance have established a number of scholarships for Luther students. Endowed Scholarships annually assist a large number of upperclass music majors who meet the eligibility conditions specified for each scholarship. Recipients of these scholarships are selected by the faculty and the student financial aid office.
